Fall exchange and a new direction!

I've been patiently waiting for the "go ahead" to share this exchange with you all.  I participated in the SWL Fall exchange and this is what I sent to my partner Pam......

Design:  PS Acorns (OOP book)
Fabric:  28ct Autumn Fields Lugana
Floss as charted
Finished as a box

I got the most lovely Fall exchange in return from Ann (no blog).  This box is truly stunning, she did a fabulous job on painting it and I simply love it!  Thanks again Ann , I truly love everything that you sent!

Since my exchange stitching is winding down (only 2 to go and almost finished) I decided to join along in a SAL with my Stitching Sister Lesleyanne and Sally.  I'm supposed to be stitching on Sundays and Tuesdays but so far I'm only managing the Tuesday.  The weekends always seem to be too busy for me to find the time to stitch!  How about you?  Of course it doesn't help when you work a full day shift every other Saturday!  This is my pitiful progress so far (hanging my head in shame)......

I also started this Prairie Schooler sampler (the middle design) that my Mom has had in her stash for a really long time.  I have plans to stitch one of these band samplers to represent each season of the year.

My Mom doesn't have the Winter Samplers OOP chart so I decided to substitute it with a Christmas Sampler.  I'm not paying the ridiculous amount of money they are selling for on Ebay and elsewhere!  I still don't understand why a designer wouldn't be publishing her older charts when there is obviously still a demand for them and she could be making money (instead of someone else).  Does it make sense to you?  I've always wondered if there is another explanation for this happening?  Perhaps copyright only lasts for so long.  I'd love to know :)

In "other" news, my hubby has recently lost some hours at work and we have had to make some budget adjustments at home.  Not a good time, right before Christmas!  I'm trying to pick up some of the slack but it is challenging to find extra hours at other locations that work with my kids schedules.  My health is still up and down.....I spend at least some part of each day in pain, probably from nerve damage!  It is not completely unbearable but it is very annoying and I hate talking moaning about it too much.  I've gained too much weight back again and I'm not happy about that either!  LOL.  Sometimes life can be challenging :)

I did some finishing this weekend too which I will share with you in my next post.  I've been a very bad blogger and I'm behind on my reading/commenting but promise to catch up really soon.

Thanks for stopping by today~

Fantastic exchanges!!!
I could never figure out the designer not makng more copies and make money, instead of crazy prices they get on ebay
Good Luck!!!

Both exchanges were beautiful! Love your new PS start! Sorry about your hubby's lack of hours, hope things get easier soon.

Beautiful exchange pieces!! I love the way that box was painted. It looks fabulous.
I've always questioned why designers don't re-release oop charts. There is obviously a demand. I kid you not, I recently saw a chart from The Goode Huswife on ebay that sold for over $200! There's no flippin way I'd ever pay that much for a pattern!

Love your exchanges! Ann did a fabulous job on the box you received. Happy stitching on your new projects... looks like you have picked some good ones.

Wonderful exchange pieces. I agree with you about the OOP charts. Even if a designer doesn't want to mess with it themselves, why not sell the publishing rights to someone else? The original designer (or heirs) would still get royalties then.

Gorgeous exchange bits given and received! You are both very talented ladies.
Wouldn't it just be great if we could lose weight as easily as it seems to settle on our hips(thighs, tummy, arms etc etc :-)
Hope your health takes an up turn and am sure that you and hubby will get through this rough patch together.

Great exchanges!

You know, I posted a similar rant about the price of OOP charts, and in fact, the very same set of Prairie Schooler seasonal ones you're working on! I love the spring booklet, as well as the winter one you don't have. But No WAY can I pay the going price for those! :(

Those are lovely, autumnal boxes that you two exchanged!! I think that any progress is progress...even though it may not be as much as we wanted. Can't believe that people would ask a crazy amount of money for a chart. Not sure why they stop publishing. Sorry to hear that your family is going through some tough times. It's hard everywhere. I still don't have a full time teaching job...BC is a mess :( I'm sorry to hear that you are in a lot of pain too. I hope things work out better for you and your family.

Angela, so sorry to read that you are still experiencing pain and that your husband's hours were cut. I do hope things improve on both counts.
The exchanges - both sent and received - are amazing!!
Love the piece you are working on. I am amazed at how much some charts are going for on the Internet!

Both exchanges are fantastic, the stitching and the finishing.
I love your new start, you are right, these PS seasonal band samplers are really beautiful. And it's a delight to stitch a PS piece.
I hope your husband's job situation will soon improve and I hope that you will have more ups than downs healthwise.

Both exchanged are lovely Angela.

So happy you decided to join Lesleyanne and I in our SAL. Stitch on it when you can it doesn't matter :) You've made a great start.

Love your PS start. I don't blame you for not wanting to pay all that for an OOP chart. It's a ridiculous amount of money.

Sorry to hear about your DH's hours. It's such a worry these days. Hope your health improves too {{{{hugs}}}}

Angela you always send and receive the most beautiful exchanges!

The weekends are hit and miss with me I'm either sitting on my behind stitching the whole time or I barely stop to sleep!

What an awesome exchange!

What pattern are you stitching for your SAL?

I agree, I have no idea why they can't still print those patterns. They might as well make the money.

I'm sorry to hear about your DH. It makes you wonder how anyone can live these days when you always have to worry about where you're going to get an income from :o(

I don't understand why designers don't re-publish charts, it seems such a simple solution. I wish they would re-think this.
